Current T.V.

What are the basic skills of a Journalist?

'Now Public' will tell you that they are

1.Curiosity- If you linger just a momment trying to
figure out what you've just encountered
thats the basic spark.
2.Sense of Adventure-Digging into something
new as part of your nature.

3.Need to Share-See a great sunset and have an
instinct to share with someone
4.Joy of storytelling-Some of us, feel fulfilled when we can hold the attention of others.

5.Making a difference-You feel the urge to make the world a better place to raise a
rallying cry when you notice something amiss, broken or unjust.

As soon as I read these ,I realised that of all journalistic news or telecast...i had not seen none of these in a while. However while going through my remote control on a sunday night.....low and behold...."what is this i see"

Current T.V sky channel 183 !!!

This discovery for me was godsent.....at that current momment they were playing a group of documentaries about Kenya. I was truly and honestly gobsmakced by them. They carried no sense of having been edited or messed around with. That was not the only thing about them....it was the people who's lives they were documenting. "It is true that everyone has a story to tell".....and if not for these young curious, adventurous and dare devils of journalists and camera man.....who would tell the story of all these people if not for their bravery.

Watching the documentaries on Kenya...really opened my mind.To the fact that "where I am is a blessing and should not be taken for granted." If not for the documentaries I would not have known about the slums in Kenya, the woman giving of their bodies to feed their children regardless of all the risks that come with it, of the many young orphans left alone after AIDS has taken away their parents, not forgetting the lack of knowledge within the slums about the diseases they live with(especially AIDS) and also of the crime and Aids rate in Kenya.
Some again would say why present the negative...but I say... "The positive has been presented for so long that we have bought into all the lies and the images we are being fed. Someone had to come out with the negative, and if that is what you ask...maybe you ought to ask....how do we make a change and give a future to the children and families dying because of poverty?."

I for one do not feel that the answer to this question is in people people giving money to the suffering people but rather to take away poverty of the mind from them, because like any old habit...the longer you do it,the longer it is transfixed in your mind...and the harder to take away....the same applies to poverty. One of the documentaries on Kenya....showed exactly how this could be done....where a lady from abroad....started a company making African Jewellery that is made by the Kenyian people in the slums.....and get this....she makes no profit from it.....all the money made is paying the workers. Now thats what I call Fair Trade and really ....goodness of the heart... itsnot that she shouldnt make any money herself.....but it just shows how she saw how these people needed rescue from their way of life than she did. "Giving of yourself" is what I call it. Plus no one is being taken advantage of.

Another question to ask..."What about the the higher beings?" The higher beings being the Government of these countries...because surely they know of all the inbalances going on in their own countires.....why not force them to tell us what they are doing about them?

Having watched these documentaries, which were filmed under the watching eye of the police,I commend these daring journalists...for their skills, wanting to tell of a story ,their need to share, their sense of adventure ,their curiosity and them trying to make a difference. And truly they have made a difference for they have captured my mind in mode of thought.Whats left is...

"What can I do?"
Thats my View!

Zimbabwes Forgotten Children

Recently watched a documentary on the children of Zimbabawe. Without being there, I felt the soil of the eatrh and was quickly reminded of home. The sun blazing on the country really made me miss all the things about home you take for granted.I had joy at the channel and program i had tuned into, thinking it was all about africa and its beauty.
I was soon to find that yes, it documented the beauty of Africa but had a negative to it.
This documentary featured the children of Zimbabwe and the country.
"Zimbabwes Forgotten Children"....a documentary by Xoliswa Sithole features three children who are on the search for money to pay for their school fees, however the obstacles are; Aids has claimed one of their parents, their parents have no jobs and the grandparents are left with children they cannot feed. Mostly though is the ignorance that they face from the countries government about their situations, in that the governemnt in the department of education send "accountants" to go and collect money from schools and chase away children that have not paid their fees.
This documentary was filmed in secret and was done to show the "left out" children of Zimbabwe, whose parents have either died or have no money to feed their families. However I also noticed that it was children in the villages that were being represented....I would of liked her to also show the children in the cities...to see whether they face the same situation or not...but I am guessing it would be either the same or different .In that sense I maybe felt it was a bit unbalanced....however, the piont is, the children she did manage to interview, their lives are what's important. I shed a tear to be honest and I felt compelled to do something.
That said, there are people that felt the documentary was totally negative towards Zimbabwe and showed no positive light on it.
That it was wrong for her to take advantage of the children.
My view on it is that Sithole gave a very professional piece of journalistic work that documented the story as it was or is.. really! Those children needed a voice and she gave them that voice, and hopefully the world has heared and will answer...and maybe by Divine intervention the countries leaders and politicians will work towards a unified country that can, through unification, pull itself into being once again one of the greatest countries in Africa.
"Children are the future" and if they are not well fed....what becomes of the future?
Thats My View:
Would also like to say that this video was mainly on this site http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r5ww9 but is not available now to view.

A Welcome...???

Welcome to my blog....I was hesitant to do this....considering that it means more time on the computer.However...I am here NOW....and there is no going back.

I have decided to make this blog contain what interests me most at hand in film....documentaries.Being a journalsim student the highs and lows of producing a documentary or short film excite me but it must be said, they have a long process of work that can be quite demanding.

I am looking forward to this journey...please be warned there might be some traces of music on this blog....for that is where the heart lies.

Feel free to follow or just pass....but get a read at least...comments are more than welcome!!......

A short documentary review is to come soon....please come by again.

Thank you
